Patient and Visitor Information

Here at Dorminy Medical Center, we understand that coming to the hospital as a patient or as a loved one's support person can be a difficult, and often an overwhelming experience. Whether you’re preparing for a hospital stay or stopping by to see friends and family, knowing where to go and what to bring will help make your visit less stressful. To make your experience easier, we want to provide you with helpful information you may need to plan your visit, such as what to expect.

Admissions

When you are admitted to our unit, we ask lots of questions regarding your health history and present illness, which is necessary to complete an accurate, up‐to-date file.  You will also be asked to sign several forms, and you will be given information about Advance Directives during your admission process. Our care is centered on you.

Before You Arrive

  • Pre-Certification:  Most insurance plans require pre-certification for non-emergency visits to the hospital. It is the patient’s responsibility to have the physician’s office or central scheduling to get pre-certification from the insurance provider.  For DMC Central Scheduling, contact Katherine Williams at 229-424-7225.

  • What to Bring:  You will need only a few personal items such as a bathrobe, slippers, sleepwear and toiletries. The hospital will provide a gown and other items you need. Bring currently prescribed home medications, as well as, supplements, i.e. herbals and other over-the-counter medications. Make sure healthcare professionals know about any medications or dietary supplements you may be taking when you arrive.

If you are admitted to the hospital, having an inpatient or outpatient surgical procedure, or if you are a patient in our Emergency Department, you should be wearing an identification bracelet. This bracelet should be on your wrist or ankle at all times. Caregivers use the bracelet to double check your identity before performing any kind of treatment.

  • Valuables:  We recommend that you do not bring valuables with you. We cannot be responsible for them, so we ask that you leave them at home or have a family member take them when they leave to go home. We are also not responsible for dentures, eye glasses, hearing aids or other personal items of this nature.
