Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for direction of Respiratory Care Department, administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system.  Performs diagnostic tests of cardiovascular and pulmonary system to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. 

PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to think and work effectively under stress with frequent interruptions; to move, sit, stand, walk and bend intermittently throughout the workday, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
2. Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these sources to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
3. Use of mechanical and technical equipment required for the responsibilities assigned.
4. External and internal applicants who become disabled, must be able to perform the essential job functions either unaided of or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
5. Position has a moderate expected exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Job Requirements

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
• Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

• Extensive experience in and possessing a strong understanding of all areas of Respiratory Care including but not limited to diagnostic testing, therapeutics, monitoring, rehabilitation, home care, and patient, family, and public education. Clinical Evaluation and assessment skills are required for all age groups of patients served by the facility including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. One-year supervisory experience preferred but not required.
