Job Description

Ensures that services are of the best quality, are cost contained and are carried out in an expeditious manner by competent personnel. Responsible for recognizing results or problems, that requires referral to the Clinical Laboratory Pathologist.  Maintains performance improvement activities within the departments and participates in CQI activities.  Formulates and manages budget in Laboratory.  Maintains effective physician and intradepartmental relations.  Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all accreditation agencies, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry preferred.
  • Master’s degree in public health, hospital administration or business administration preferred.
  • Minimum of one year managerial experience in the clinical laboratory of an acute care hospital (in non-waived testing).
  • Prefer experience with regulatory and accreditation of laboratory operations.
  • Ability to think and work effectively under stress with frequent interruptions; to move, sit, stand, walk and bend intermittently throughout the workday, lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these sources to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Use of mechanical and technical equipment required for the responsibilities assigned.
  • External and internal applicants who become disabled, must be able to perform the essential job functions either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined on a case by case basis.
Experience
• Minimum three to five years experience in a supervisory or managerial role of an acute care hospital.
