Rural Georgia hospital to dedicate hospital wing to cancer care

ATLANTA, September 29, 2021—Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) Atlanta and Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Ga. today announced a partnership to offer coordinated, advanced oncology care to residents of south-central Georgia. A ribbon cutting will be held at Dorminy Medical Center on September 29 in recognition of the partnership and to dedicate a wing in the hospital that has been devoted to cancer care.

This is CTCA Atlanta’s second rural partnership in Georgia. The hospital announced an alliance with Miller County Hospital, a 25-bed critical access facility in Colquitt last year.

“There are many challenges and barriers facing patients in rural communities, including access to cancer screenings and advanced cancer treatment options said Jonathan E. Watkins, CTCA Atlanta Regional President. “We are excited to collaborate with Dorminy Medical Center and the Fitzgerald community.  This collaboration allows us to offer world-class oncology services for patients closer to their homes and families.”

Through its cancer care alliances, CTCA Atlanta healthcare providers collaborate with physicians in rural communities to perform evaluations and propose treatment plans. Like those treating at Miller County Hospital, Dorminy Medical Center patients will have access to in-person visits at CTCA Atlanta and clinical telemedicine services with highly trained, board certified physicians. This will allow patients to receive treatments, chemotherapy, and telemedicine visits close to home.

“We are elated to have formed this partnership with CTCA Atlanta,” said Paige Wynn, Dorminy Medical Center CEO. “We have placed an emphasis on enhancing access to the world’s best cancer care for the people of our region and we now have it with this alliance. We look forward to a long-lasting relationship that provides maximum benefit for cancer patients in Fitzgerald, Ben Hill County and throughout south-central Georgia.”
